San Jose, CA, Aug. 25, 2009 -
Aplus Flash Technology - a privately-held, US-based fabless provider of Non-Volatile Memory (NVM) products and IP - announced
today that Aplus has signed a contract with Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC) to jointly develop a family of 0.13 um 2P4M EEPROM IP for low power,
low-voltage, high-density embedded EEPROM applications such as smart cards, national IDs, ePassport, and eBank etc.
The contract IP project would start with a first spec to meet higher density and lower power consumption.
Aplus' proprietary IP design is scheduled to complete by the end of 2009.
In accordance with the spirit of the signed contract, SMIC will be in charge of the development of EEPROM process and bit cell,
while Aplus will be fully responsible for the IP circuit design, spec. definition and characterizations.
The potential of this advanced 0.13um EEPROM IP would place SMIC in the leading position to offer a world-class EEPROM IP,
allowing SMIC's major customers to design the future-generation low-current embedded EEPROM products
Dr. Henry Ma, Aplus' Shanghai General Manager and VP of IP sales,
said "We are extremely pleased to work with a leading foundry like SMIC to provide the most advanced EEPROM IP for worldwide customers.
Upon the completion of this IP, we will keep working with SMIC to migrate to 90 nm technology node for more sophisticated SoC chips."
